Nongpoh, Dec 2: A 21-year-old woman was found dead on Monday night at Kamla Bagan in Ri Bhoi District, with her head crushed in what is suspected to be a truck accident.
The victim has been identified as Blessbina Marak of Jorbil Killing village. Her body was found by passersby who immediately alerted the Khanapara Police Station.
Police arrived at the scene and the body to be taken to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of death, examining all possibilities, including negligence or foul play.
Meanwhile, even as Ri Bhoi district are strictly monitoring road safety through awareness and checking a truck driver was found driving recklessly last night.
The driver, Warilang Dkhar (38) of Nongjngi, Thadlaskein, West Jaintia Hills was proceeding from Guwahati towards Shillong when he dashed against one roadside shop and jumped into the other lane.
Police said the incident happened at around 9:30 last night. The driver who continued to recklessly drive in the wrong lane was chased by the public including the VDP members, who could detain him.
While no one was injured, police said such reckless act could be fatal for the truck driver and commuters.
The police thanked the people who risked their life to nab the truck driver and assured legal action.
“Please always drive responsibly. One moment of madness can cause lifelong pain,” Ri Bhoi Police urged in a social media post.
