A major tragedy was averted after an electricity pole crashed along the national highway in Nongthymmai area here today.
No casualties was reported, however two vehicles were damaged.
The incident took place at around 7:30 am which disrupted electricity supply in the area.
Residents said the electricity pole in the area had worn out from the base, which led to the collapse.
The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU), Nongthymmai circle said that the issue of corroded electric poles was taken up with the Power Minister in June but nothing was done.
The union had sought inspection of worn out electric poles and tension wires hanging precariously in the area.
The KSU has warned that any further delay in conducting an inspection will not be accepted and they will be forced to take strong steps.
