The death toll from Covid-19 in Meghalaya increased to 87, with two further deaths recorded in East Khasi Hills today.
The deceased were identified as Lalbahadur Waibha (62) and Belingstar Lyngkhoi (45).
Waibha, of 29 Cantonment Colony, Anjalee Beat House, died on October 14 but was only included in today’s Health Department statistics. He had been admitted to Supercare Hospital on October 12 and died of acute respiratory distress syndrome with Covid-19.
Lyngkhoi, of Langsymphut, Mawsynram, was admitted to the same hospital on October 18 and tested positive there. He died yesterday evening. The cause of death was sepsis with multi-organ failure after a gall bladder operation.
Meanwhile, the state recorded 77 new Covid-19 cases and 113 recoveries. Active cases now stand at 1,326, with total recoveries at 7,890. There have been a total of 9,303 Covid infections in the state since the first back in April.
Of the new cases, East Khasi Hills reported 40, West Garo Hills 15, East Garo Hills nine, Ri-Bhoi six, East Jaiñtia Hills two, West Jaiñtia Hills two, South Garo Hills one, South West Garo Hills one and South West Khasi Hills one.
Of the recoveries, East Khasi Hills recorded 89, Ri-Bhoi 13, West Garo Hills eight, West Jaiñtia Hills two and North Garo Hills one.
The number of samples that have been tested for the virus in Meghalaya also crossed 2 lakh today. Of these, 1.91 lakh have tested negative.
