Two men were killed following a collision between a Bihar-registered truck and a JCB earthmover at Khapmara on the Shillong Bypass early today morning.
The incident occurred at around 3:30am when the truck (BR 06GE 5655) collided with the JCB (ML 05W 1708), which was parked by the roadside. The deceased were the driver, Batiplem Suting (28) of Langkyrdem, and Slibor Kharbani (25) of Nongdom Umiap, who was standing by the JCB at the time of the accident.
Both victims were taken to the Bhoirymbong Community Health Centre but were declared dead on arrival.
According to Ri-Bhoi police sources, the truck was enroute to Ladrymbai from Guwahati when it hit the JCB at Khapmara.
The bodies were subsequently sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for postmortem examinations. The truck driver fled the scene and police are on the lookout for him.
