Meghalaya police arrested two people and recovered two country-made guns from their possession, bringing the total number of recent arrests to six.
In a social media post, West Garo Hills police stated that two were arrested and arms recovered from them under the jurisdiction of Damalgre police station in South West Garo Hills.
The recovery, according to police sources, is part of the ongoing inquiry that has led to the arrest of half a dozen individuals who were involved in criminal activities. Last week a large amount of explosives was recovered from Ri-Bhoi district in a joint police operation where two arrests were made.
Interrogation of these suspects led to the revelation of more members of the criminal gang and further arrests.
West Garo Hills police sources, however, discounted the idea that the activity was linked to the formation of a new militant outfit, something that was widely rumoured and even hinted at by police from Ri-Bhoi.
