An 18-year-old woman, who sustained severe injuries in an alleged hit-and-run accident in Sohryngkham, East Khasi Hills last night, died while undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Shillong.
The deceased, identified as Saphisha Tiewksiar Nongkhlaw of Nongthymmai Jingkieng, was riding pillion on a bike driven by her friend, Alexter Khrawbor Mulat.
The incident happened at around 6:30 pm on Wednesday when Alexter and Saphisha were returning from a viewpoint along with other friends.
Alexter said he had pulled over at the roadside near Sohryngkham while his friends had gone ahead. A yellow Alto 800, coming at high speed on the wrong side of the road, hit him and fled the scene, he said.
A case has been registered and police are identifying the car.
