One Kluston Ryntathiang was sentenced to 14 years in a POCSO case by Swapna G Momin, Special Judge (POCSO), here on March 11.
Ryntathiang was found guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This section relates to aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a child. He received punishment of rigorous imprisonment of 14 years and a fine of Rs 10,000. In default, he has to undergo simple imprisonment of another two month.
The convicted felon also received another three-year sentence and payment of Rs 5,000 fine under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. This section deals with criminal intimidation. In default of fine, he has to undergo simple imprisonment for another one month.
Details of the case were not revealed. The case lodged at Laban police station was investigated by Inspector Phrianglin Syiem and presently posted as Reserve Inspector at Police Reserve, Shillong.
