Khliehriat, Sep 28: A person was burnt alive after an 11 KV live wire fell on a moving vehicle at Pyrtakuna village on NH-6 on Monday evening.
Police said they received an anonymous call around 7:10 pm about a vehicle coming from Lumshnong towards Umkiang that was electrocuted and completely gutted along with its occupant.
On enquiry, it was found that an Eeco vehicle bearing registration number AS-01-TC 6015 was coming from Lad Rymbai towards Badarpur, Assam, when a high-voltage wire suddenly fell on it around 6:30 pm.
The vehicle was completely burnt down and one occupant was electrocuted and died on the spot. Police said the driver reportedly escaped and his whereabouts are unknown.
Inquest could not be conducted due to darkness and lack of light at the spot, police said. The body has been shifted to the morgue at Khliehriat Civil Hospital for legal formalities on Tuesday morning.
An Aadhaar and EPIC card recovered from the body identified the deceased as Riyaj Uddin of Mamadpur, Karimganj ( (officially renamed Sribhumi), Assam. Efforts are on to trace his relatives.
