Rangsakona Legislator Zenith M Sangma today dedicated an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance to the people of his constituency with an objective to support the fight against Covid-19.
The ambulance costing Rs 26 lakh is fully equipped to handle patients needing life support along with tools and equipment similar to a hospital emergency department or critical care unit. It also carries critical care equipment including an ECG monitor, defibrillator, intravenous and blood draw tools etc.
Pointing out that healthcare in the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic has become a crucial sector and lack of such high end ambulances is a major setback for the state, Sangma said with no ALS ambulance in Garo Hills region, this would be useful in providing better medical services during medical emergencies.
He said at present Meghalaya has three ALS ambulances of which one at the step-down COVID hospital at Umsawli, Shella and Laitkynsew. However, NEIGRIHMS hospital too has one ALS, he added.
