A 17-year-old youth was killed in an accident with a tanker truck, while riding on the wrong side along the National Highway 6 in Wahiajer today.
The accident occurred around 7:45 am when the victim, identified as Deba Basumatari of Borbil Milanpur in Assam, was on his way to Lumshnong. The impact was severe, leading to his death at the scene.
Police said the bike bearing registration number AS 02 AN 5538 and the dumper NL01L 0813 were proceeding in the same direction towards Lumshnong.
The body of the youth was handed over to the relatives after post mortem examination while the driver of the tanker, Diganta Boruah (30) of Kanubari Balijan Ouguri Pathar, Assam was arrested.
Police said the family members of the victim have been asked to lodge an FIR.
