As part of the observation of World Suicide Prevention Day, the office of the District Mental Health Programme of East Khasi Hills today organised an observation programme on the theme ‘Creating Hope Through Action’ here.
Dr Pakha Tesia, president of the Indian Psychiatrist Society, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tesia emphasised on the power of collective efforts in preventing suicide and the most effective ways to prevent suicide tendencies by raising awareness in the community, by creating a support network among the students community or in the community as a whole.
He also stressed on the need to seek out professional help, mental health professionals and helplines for support and guidance to connect with the appropriate resources.
During the programme, Dr B Sohkhlet, Consultant Psychiatrist at the District Mental Health Programme, gave a brief presentation on World Suicide Prevention Day. The chief guest and other dignitaries also distributed prizes to the winners of a short play competition.
