Shillong, Oct 14: A two-day workshop on ‘Skill Development, Training & Resource Centre for Self Employability’ is being organised by the Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Synod College in collaboration with Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Incubation Centre (EHC-SYC) of the college.
Synod College Principal Dr G. Lyngdoh stressed on the importance of vocational training under the NEP and said the workshop aligns with the vision of the college to empower students, especially those from the economically weaker section of society.
MLA Shakliar Warjri who attended the inaugural session said there is a need to develop skills to tap into the vast employment opportunities that are there in Meghalaya. The government, he pointed out, is willing to give assistance but it would also require the people to take up the opportunities by equipping themselves with the right skills to meet the skill gap in the market.
Dr. Xavier Alphonse, S.J., the Director of Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE) pointed out that the state of Meghalaya could benefit greatly by collaborating with ICRDCE.
The Skill centres under ICRDCE help to develop the skills required to meet the needs of the evolving employment market and he optimistically suggested that Shillong could possibly have five Skill Centres in Shillong by next year.
