Jowai, Oct 28: The Amwi Ar Lyngdoh Jarain Private Market was reopened today after three years, in the presence of Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui.
The market, functioning since the 1980s, was closed on August 3, 2023, following disputes among four Dorbar Shnongs. It was revived after the Dorbars reached a fresh understanding and submitted a joint resolution on May 12, 2026.
After a spot enquiry on June 15 and an agreement signed on August 10, the JHADC approved its reopening as a weekly market under the new name.
Speaking on the occasion, Rymbui said the market would boost the local economy and livelihoods. JHADC EM Medling M. Swer and Dolloi Elaka Amwi Jemiwell Pyrtuh lauded the collective effort and called for unity among the Dorbars for smooth functioning.
Officials urged traders to maintain cleanliness, discipline and peaceful cooperation.
