With the rising tourist footfall in Meghalaya provisions will be made for wayside amenities along the prominent routes.
East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal said that these will include toilets, cafes, convenience stores, parking space among others and will be built in a prefab mode.
The main objectives of the ‘Wayside Amenities’ scheme is to provide public convenience facilities along the major tourist routes, to enhance attractiveness and potential of the State as a preferred tourist destination, and to bring revenue to the local communities where the wayside amenities will be set up.
Informing that an Expression of Interest (EOI) has been issued inviting applications from interested and eligible candidates or communities wherein the Directorate of Tourism shall set up wayside amenities on the land made available by them. He said he those responsible for operations and maintenance of the facilities and will keep the revenue generated from such facilities. “Candidates and communities with adequate land availability along the major roads/routes are invited to submit their applications based on the eligibility criteria and technical references,” he added.
