Being a new outfit, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is no threat to the National People’s Party (NPP), party member Rakkam A Sangma said today.
Looking ahead to the Lok Sabha election next year, Sangma said today, “They are a new party and they have to grow and learn things. To be a politician and leader, big things have to be done and they should be bound by a particular community, tribe, religion or culture but be leaders acceptable to everybody because the beauty of this nation is unity in diversity and so is Meghalaya where together we can achieve our dreams.”
The VPP won only four seats in this year’s Assembly election, all of which were in Khasi Hills. However, the NPP struggled in the same area and the VPP is hoping to ride a wave of popular discontent against the NPP and win the Shillong seat next year.
