The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has expressed its disappointment and dismay over the recent treatment of Meghalaya Police personnel from the 3rd Meghalaya Police Battalion, deployed to Jharkhand for election duties.
“It has come to our attention that out of the 103 personnel assigned to this duty, the government has only provided reserved train tickets for 70, leaving the remaining cadets without seats and forcing them to sit on the floor for the entire journey. Furthermore, the accommodations provided are in sleeper class, which is inadequate for a mission of this nature and fails to honour the commitment and professionalism of our police force,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said in a statement issued today.
While strongly condemning “this gross negligence and lack of respect toward our police personnel, who are undertaking duties that require focus, dedication, and physical resilience”, the VPP also said that by disregarding their basic needs for appropriate travel arrangements, the government has demonstrated a troubling disregard for their well-being, dignity, and morale.
“The VPP demands that the government take urgent steps to rectify this situation and ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future. The well-being of our police force is non-negotiable, and we urge the government to show greater responsibility and foresight in arranging travel and accommodations for our personnel. The VPP stands firmly with our police personnel and calls for accountability and action from those responsible for this appalling oversight,” Myrboh said.
