Union Minister of State for DoNER Sukanta Majumdar held a meeting with senior government officials to review the various schemes and projects funded by the Ministry in Meghalaya.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the State in the implementation of the projects and highlighted that the allocation provided under various schemes of the ministry has been mostly utilised by the State.
He also emphasised the importance of expediting the completion of certain projects.
Majumdar informed that the government has decided to bring logistics sector under industries department to create jobs in the State
The MoS also called upon the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at his residence and discussed issues pertaining to the State, including the proposed Hilli-Mahindraganj transnational economic corridor, which alms to enhance connectivity between West Bengal and Meghalaya through Bangladesh by providing an alternative route to the congested NH 27 Siliguri corridor, known as Chicken’s Neck.
The corridor will significantly reduce travel time and cost, alleviating logistical pressures and boosting economic development in the region.
Both also discussed the potential impact of the road, which is expected to reduce travel distances from 600 km to 85 km.
The project also holds significance as Hilli is within the constituency represented by Majumdar.
