The A·chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) today said that the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) will soon be effectively rudderless as the state government has dragged its feet to appoint new members to deal with recent and impending retirements.
PR Marwein, the incumbent Chairperson, retired in January and the Acting Chairperson, Babynna T Sangma, is set to retire tomorrow. This will leave the body with just one member, “rendering it completely dysfunctional and incapable of conducting its duties.”
Other issues the pressure group raised were a supposed delay in appointing a Garo member, the need for the next Chairperson to be a Garo, making MPSC appointments on the basis of merit not favouritism, ending corruption in the state government job recruitment process overseen by the MPSC and ending long delays in recruitment. It also criticised the move of exams from the Tura centres “at short notice” last time.
