Two persons, including a five year old child and his father were killed today after the scooty they were riding in, hit an oncoming stone dumper near Ampati in South West Garo Hills.
As per reports, the incident took place at about 7 am. The the victims are identified as Tengabil M Marak (39) and his youngest son, Bilkam R Marak. The victims were apparently going towards the Ampati Civil Hospital when the tragedy took place.
As per witnesses, the father – son duo, who are residents of Ampati Bolsalgre, had gone to buy groceries and it was while returning that their vehicle was hit by the dumper truck. The dumper was carrying stones meant for export into neighbouring Bangladesh.
Witnesses added that the vehicle that hit the father and son had veered off the road and hit the scooter, leading to the immediate death of the two victims as they were run over.
“It could be a human error (sleepiness) or a mechanical one but the vehicle, which was going towards Ampati went off road and hit the scooty leading to the death of the two persons. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested. An investigation into the matter is currently on,” Superintendet of Police, Siddharth Ambedkar said.
The driver of the dumper, ran from the spot after the incident, but was later caught by villagers and handed over to the Ampati PS.
