East Khasi Hills police today arrested two persons who were involved in a case of assault and arm robbery of a shopkeeper.
According to Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger the arrested persons, Max Eric Syiemlieh (25) and Melvin Tongwah (22) were involved in looting the shopkeeper on September 14.
He said after the shopkeeper had closed the shop for the day, he was confronted by three persons on separate scooters near Little Blossom School under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station.
“The assailants brandished weapons and issued threats before another individual arrived on a separate scooter, retrieving a metal rod from the boot. The group proceeded to search the complainant’s belongings and robbed him of Rs 10,200 from his day’s sales,” the SP said.
A criminal case was registered after an FIR was lodged on September 18 and the arrest was made yesterday.
The two persons, Nongtnger said, were also involved in an attempted robbery and assault at Hideaway Café on September 16.
He said investigation is ongoing to nab the remaining suspects involved.
