Shillong, Apr 11: The Court of R. Rymbai, Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills convicted two persons for sexual assault on a minor and sentenced them to 14 years imprisonment.
The court convicted Kamkhothang Simte and Thangngin Sime on April 8 under the POCSO Act.
The case dates back to September 30, 2018, when an FIR was lodged at Madanrting Police Station alleging repeated sexual assault on a minor. Kamkhothang and Thangngin were accused of of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and arrested the two accused.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem in a statement said a chargesheet was filed in February 2019.
The court has directed the convicts to pay a penalty and in default would result in an extra six months behind bars. Moreover, Kamkhothang faced an additional two-year sentence for criminal intimidation.
The investigation in the case was carried out by WPSI P. Wahlang of East Khasi Hills Police.
