The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (Meghalaya-SCPCR) is organising a seven-day residential training programme for Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) on Child Rights.
The programme began on June 19 in Shillong marking an important milestone in enhancing the capacity of CWCs to protect and promote the rights of children.
The training programme signifies the commitment of both NCPCR and Meghalaya-SCPCR to provide comprehensive and specialized training to CWC members, an official statement here said.
The programme aims to equip them with essential knowledge and skills in understanding child rights, child protection laws, case management, child psychology, rehabilitation, and effective decision-making. By enhancing their professional capabilities, CWC members will be better equipped to safeguard the best interests of the children under their care.
Social Welfare Joint Secretary Sabrella Marak who inaugurated the programme emphasised on the importance of protecting and promoting child rights as a collective responsibility.
Advocate Shivam Rai, Consultant, Juvenile Justice Cell, NCPCR, highlighted the significance of the training programme in empowering CWCs to address the diverse needs of children.
Through the programme, expert trainers and resource persons will engage with CWC members, providing them with in-depth knowledge, practical tools, and case studies to enhance their understanding of child rights and child protection mechanisms. The training programme will be interactive, allowing for meaningful discussions, knowledge sharing, and the development of strategies to address the unique challenges faced by children in Meghalaya.
