A one day training programme for para legal volunteers was today organised by the District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority at Shillong Law College.
The training was attended by para legal volunteers of the district and students of Shillong Law College.
The topics for the day-long training includes Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, Role and Responsibilities of Para Legal Volunteers and Introduction to NALSA Schemes, Basics of Criminal Law and Early Access to Justice and Pre Arrest, Arrest and Remand Stage, Child Rights and NALSA Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes, 2015, Government Schemes Welfare Schemes and Programmes for economically and socially backward sections of the society.
The resource persons are D. Sohtun, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, T. T. M. Sangma, OSD, MSLSA, Iamonlang Syiem, Chairperson, SCPCR and R. Wahlang, Executive Magistrate.
The programme ended with an interactive session on the role of para legal volunteers as intermediaries bridging the gap between the various government institutions and the common people and their roles in police station.
The panelist includes N.A.Khan, District and Session Judge, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, SP (City), East Khasi Hills District and R. Wahlang, Executive Magistrate.
