A traditional fishing practice, known locally as ‘Tong Dohkha paidbah’, of Raid Iapngar, under Hima Khyrim, has witnessed a revival of late.
This annual traditional fishing practice was always held at the Umtung River before the people of Raid Iapngar would harvest rice.
It was revived yesterday by Isynei Hinge, a youth of the district, in the presence of traditional leaders of Raid Iapngar and villagers.
Hinge lauded the local people for their collective decision to organise this traditional fishing event.
“Any tribe that has no identity is a lost tribe,” he said, adding that Raid Iapngar has done such a marvelous job to revive the practice.
