A social activist from the city has written to the Chief Executive Members of all three District Councils in Meghalaya urging them to direct all Central government offices in the State to give 44 per cent job reservation for local youth in Group C and D posts.
In a letter to the CEMs of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), the activist Arju Dkhar said that he has received a reply on the RTI information sought by him from the Government of India regarding job reservation for local candidates in Central government offices located in the State.
“The reply received clearly mentioned that based on the 2001 Census, Scheduled Tribes of Meghalaya are entitled for job reservation of 44 per cent for Group C and D posts as per the vacancy that arises with effect from 5th July, 2005 in all central offices of the Government of India in the State of Meghalaya,” Dkhar said in his letter.
He also urged the CEMs of the District Councils to direct all the Central government offices falling under the jurisdiction of the respective District Council to issue a compulsory compliance order as per the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
“Strict implementation of the order of the Government of India shall ease the huge unemployment problems presently faced by the tribal youth of the State,” Dkhar added.
