The Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills, R Yanthan, yesterday launched the Meghalaya Comprehensive TB Care 100 Days Campaign and flagged off the Ni Kshay Vahan.
While emphasising the importance of community engagement for the success of the 100 Days TB Care Campaign, the DC called for the active participation of all stakeholders, including the Nokmas.
He urged them to spread awareness about TB control and prevention in their homes and villages, suggesting that they dedicate at least five minutes before church services to raise awareness.
The primary focus of the 100 Days TB Elimination Campaign will be to strengthen diagnostic and treatment services, particularly for vulnerable groups, such as those living in remote areas, marginalized communities, active or passive smokers, heavy drinkers and individuals who are diabetic or living with HIV.
The initiative will also provide nutritional support through the Ni Kshay Poshan Yojana, which offers financial assistance to TB patients for better nutrition.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that this 100 Days TB Elimination Campaign marks an important milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a TB-free nation by 2025.
He urged all citizens of South Garo Hills, government departments, and individuals to provide comprehensive support to make this campaign successful.
During the program, TB survivors who completed skill development training were also recognized. Additionally, Dr. Baggio Robert Marak led a pledge to work towards making India a TB-free nation.
