A tax payers’ hub will be held for three days, starting from June 10 in Shillong by the Income Tax Department, Shillong in collaboration with Central Board of Direct Taxes, New Delhi.
Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, Shillong Dinesh Sawkmie said the hub is an outreach programme to educate the tax payers and provide information about the Income Tax Act and redressal of grievances of the taxpayers.
The programme will be held at the Shillong Club till June 12 which aims to showcase the department’s initiatives for taxpayers’ services and voluntary compliances.
The department had organized such hub at Bhagalpur, Gorakpur, Visakhapatnam, Jhansi, Cuttack and in the coming months at Ajmer.
Sawkmie said the department recognises the importance of taxpayers’ contribution to the economic development of the country. Educating the taxpayers about the rights and obligations under the Income Tax Act is one of the main objectives of this initiative, he added.
Information kiosks will be set up and pamphlets will be distributed to all the visitors in order to sensitize the tax payers. Attendees will also witness the use of innovative methods like virtual reality games, quiz competition, magic shows and nukkad natak.
Special brochures will also be printed to create awareness and foster tax literacy among the youth of the state. Brochures will also be distributed relating to statutory compliance required by the Schedule Tribe of NER for claiming exemption u/s 10(26) of the I.T. Act.
Principal Director General of Income Tax (Admn and TPS), New Delhi Archana Choudhury will inaugurate the hub.
