Shillong, Oct 9: The Syiem of Hima Sohra and Sordar of Laitduh village have been advised to resolve disputes through lawful and administrative means in matters related to management of the Dainthlen Waterfalls.
A meeting was convened by Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Sohra Civil Sub-Division MA Challam today after a demarcation order was issued by the Syiem of Hima Sohra.
As per the order, custody and management of Dainthlen Waterfalls now fall under Hima Sohra, which will oversee the regulation of tourism activities at the site.
Representatives of Laitduh village expressed concerns regarding territorial demarcation but assured cooperation and agreed to maintain peace and order while pursuing the matter through appropriate legal channels.
During the meeting, it was noted that certain preparatory activities for reopening the Dainthlen Waterfalls were undertaken without prior approval from the competent authority, despite previous restrictions issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
It was clarified that the order was issued as per the directions of the KHADC Tribunal and in compliance with the order of the Meghalaya High Court.
The administration cautioned that any act disturbing public order or violating the BNSS restrictions or the demarcation order will invite strict legal action.
As a goodwill measure, it was agreed that the Syiem of Hima Sohra and the Sordar of Laitduh village will hold further discussions to explore collaboration in managing the waterfalls, including engagement of local youths and allocation of stalls to residents of Laitduh village for economic participation.
The meeting concluded with a call for mutual cooperation, peace, and respect to ensure the smooth reopening and sustainable management of Dainthlen Waterfalls.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Office of the Syiem, Hima Sohra, the Executive Committee of Laitduh, WPSI V. Diengdoh of Sohra Police Station, and representatives from various departments.
