A Swachhta rally to raise awareness on the importance of cleanliness and sanitation was organised for students by the office of the Executive Engineer (EE), Public Health Engineering (PHE) and the office of the District Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (DSMB) in Mawkyrwat
Block Coordinator Joystarding Lyngdoh, in his speech said that the rally was organised as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, on the theme “Garbage Free India” to educate and sensitize the people of the district about the importance of cleanliness by encouraging public participation in promoting cleanliness and proper sanitation practices in the district so as to create a healthier and a cleaner environment.
He also stressed that cleanliness is a collective responsibility and that every citizen should play their part in keeping their surroundings and public places clean.
Students from three schools of the district actively joined the cleanliness rally, displaying placards that emphasized the importance of cleanliness and sanitation.
Later in the day, a quiz competition and a drawing competition were also organised for schools within the Mawkyrwat Block. Certificates and cash prizes were also distributed to the winners.
In the Quiz competition, Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat secured the first place, followed by Mawkyrwat Presbyterian Secondary School, Laitlawsang in the second place, and Tiehïangphang Upper Primary & Secondary School, Mawthawiang in the third place.
In the Drawing competition, Phrangsngi Khongngaiñ of Mawkyrwat Presbyterian Secondary School claimed the first prize, while Phulnestar Lyngdoh from Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat, earned the second place, and SamborlangLyngkhoi from Tiehïangphang Upper Primary & Secondary School, Mawthawiang, secured the third place.
