Reliance Pyrngap was conferred with the National Florence Nightingale Award for 2022 by President Droupadi Murmu at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
Pyrngap, and other health workers, received the award for her dedicated service over 35 years where she has been an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and Lady Health Visitor (LHV). She has served the communities under Saipung Primary Health Centre and is currently posted at Sutnga Community Health Centre in East Jaiñtia Hills.
“She is efficient in her job and goes beyond her call of duty to serve her community,” an official press release stated today. “Her leadership, hard work, initiative and empathy are commendable. She has saved many lives of women during complicated childbirth. She has updated herself by attending various CNE (continuing nursing education) programmes at national, state and district levels. Reliance Pyrngap’s service to the community is highly appreciated by the public and district authorities.”
Speaking about her award, Pyrngap said, “I am elated and deeply grateful to be given this recognition for my hard work and I try to give 100 percent from the beginning till the end of the year. Obviously it is impossible to give 100 percent but that does not stop me from working as hard as possible, which I feel has resulted in this award.”
She also encouraged her colleagues to give their best and said that recognition will follow.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh congratulated Pyrngap on her achievement, saying, “I extend our heartfelt appreciation and warmest congratulations to Reliance Pyrngap, Lady Health Visitor from Sutnga CHC, East Jaintia Hills, for receiving the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award. This well-deserved recognition highlights her exceptional contributions as a nursing professional and symbolises the dedication and hard work she has exhibited in rendering healthcare services to the people”.
The National Florence Nightingale Award was instituted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 1973 as a mark of recognition for the meritorious service rendered by the nurses and nursing professionals to society.
