The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) fears that the state government will employ time-wasting tactics in the selection of members who will make up the expert committee to study Meghalaya’s reservation policy and roster system.
The state government made it known that the appointment of the committee will be a lengthy process as it wants the best and most qualified people to be part of the body.
However, KHNAM’s Thomas Passah said today that this could be one of the tactics used by the government to scuttle the review of the reservation and roster.
Unlike KHNAM, other political parties have “unconvincingly agreed” to the review because of public pressure and not because they believe in the need for it, he added.
KHNAM fears that if the process takes too long, the expert committee will turn into an ‘expired committee’.
