Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh today distributed power tillers and seeds to farmers under the Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) and State Plan Scheme at a function at 7th Mile, Upper Shillong.
The event was organised by the Agriculture Engineering (Mechanical) Wing of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
Focusing on encouraging mechanization to improve productivity, under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs 90,000 is provided to procure the power tillers, while the rest of the cost has to be borne by the farmers, a press release stated.
Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Lyngdoh said his department is trying its best to reach out to farmers. He also informed that 700 power tillers will be distributed this year.
