Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to express my views on the student protests held on July 21 in Delhi and Mumbai.
The demonstrations, in which students and some opposition leaders called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation, have once again highlighted growing concerns over issues affecting the country’s youth.
In a democracy, citizens have the right to express their opinions peacefully, while the government has the responsibility to listen to genuine grievances and maintain law and order. At the same time, protests should remain non-violent, and any response by the authorities should be proportionate and respectful of democratic rights. Allegations and differing accounts about the events underscore the importance of an impartial inquiry wherever necessary.
The way forward lies in constructive dialogue rather than confrontation. Addressing students’ concerns transparently and peacefully will strengthen public trust and uphold democratic values.
