The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Non-Conventional and Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA), hosted a series of sessions to commemorate World Environment Day here.
The event aimed to share comprehensive, data-driven progress with the communities of Meghalaya and promote the utilisation of renewable energy sources in the state.
Experts from MNREDA delivered insights into the latest advancements in the field of renewable energy and their potential applications within the state. The attendees received a detailed awareness presentation by Elizabeth Kharjana, Project Officer at MNREDA.
As part of the event, students from four Shillong high schools – Brookside Adventist Higher Secondary School, St George Higher Secondary School, Laban Assamese Girls Higher Secondary School and Bhanu Bhakta Nepali Pro Secondary School – participated in a drawing contest with the theme ‘Renewable Energy for a Better Tomorrow’.
Their imaginative artwork demonstrated the students’ comprehension and vision for a sustainable future. The event also included a display of prototype devices, allowing attendees to interact with the real-time impact of the Meghalaya government’s upcoming Solar Mission. “These devices are a representation of the state’s commitment to renewable energy, as well as a glimpse into the future possibilities of sustainable living,” a press release said today.
The event also featured an exhibition on renewable resources and a sensitisation session for headmen from Sunny Hill, Lumdiengtri, Lama Villa, Jaiaw Langsning, Dymmiew, Lumkshaid, Mawprem, Qualapaty, Nongsohphoh and Laitumkhrah.
The session focused on the PM Kusum scheme and biogas scheme with MNREDA officials highlighting the potential benefits. A dedicated awareness session on solar energy was also held.
