Sub-Divisional Officer of Sohra Civil Sub Division, Saloni Verma has stressed the importance of educating daughters and children in general so that social change can happen.
She was speaking as chief guest at the 2nd Annual General Meeting cum International Women’s Day celebration organised by Lawei Ban Phyrnai Cluster Level Federation Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society on the theme “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress” at Mawsmai Durbar Hall, Sohra on March 8.
“Send your daughters to pursue higher education and encourage them to have goals and ambitions in their life and to fulfill their dreams so that in future they can in turn contribute positively to the society,” Verma added.
Others present include Block Development Officer R Hajong, Lawei Ban Phyrnai Cluster Level Federation secretary Pyntip Thabah, Sirdar of Mawsmai Kenes Sing Khongwar, District Mission Manager L Basaiawmoit, and members of Self Help Groups from 14 villages under Shella Bholaganj Community and Rural Development Block.
Other highlights of the programme include distribution of CIF loans to 20 SHGs and the felicitation of older persons by the chief guest and other dignitaries.
It may be mentioned that the Lawei Ban Phyrnai Cluster Level Federation (CLF) Multipurpose Cooperative Society established on December 2, 2022 comprises 14 Village Organisations (VOs) and 98 SHGs. The objectives of the cooperative society are to promote health, nutrition, sanitation, education and livelihood.
