In a bid to upscale skill among lower primary schools teachers, leadership skill training under Teachers Organisation Development (TOD) Project was organised by the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) here yesterday.
The three-day training was participated in by 30 teachers from various parts of the State.
The resource persons at the training included AMPSTA State coordinator C Daribha Synrem, All India Primary Teachers’ Federation secretary F C Shullai and Lewis Lawai Lyngdoh and Daridor Synrem from the Health Department.
The closing ceremony of the training was held yesterday and was graced by senior journalist John W. Thabah who spoke on the importance of skill training for teachers.
Thabah also dwelt on the need for investing more on upskilling teachers in order to meet the new challenges in teaching children at the elementary level.
Thabah also distributed certificates to all the participants of the training. AMPSTA vice president Tonyfortstar War presided over the programme.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons, AMPSTA State coordinator C Daribha Synrem said that TOD Project was started in 1992 for upgrading the skill of primary school teachers.
According to her, training, workshops and seminars organised under TOD Project were funded by AMPSTA and All India Primary Teachers’ Federation (AIPTF) on a 50:50 ratio.
“These trainings have really helped the teachers in improving their skills. Each year we get assistance from funds from AIPTF to conduct three trainings for lower primary school teachers in the State. This means that we could conduct training thrice a year for Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills,” Synrem said.
She also informed that all expenditures for teachers taking part in these trainings were borne by the AMPSTA and AIPTF.
