All medical shops, departmental stores and wine shops in South West Khasi Hills district have been directed on install surveillance cameras in and around their premises.
The order under Section 133 CrPC was imposed today by District Magistrate, Tableland Lyngwa since there are areas where drug abuse and other related activities are taking place in the district. This, he said, has become a public nuisance.
“This Order has been issued to discourage drug users from attempting illegal activities in the district and installation of CCTV camera would serve as a deterrent to potential unlawful activities and provide valuable evidence to law enforcing agencies aiding in the identification and apprehension of the wrongdoers,” the DM said.
Anyone aggrieved by the order may approach the office of the District Magistrate, South West Khasi Hills District within 30 days before the instant order is made absolute, the order said.
