Shillong, May 3: The Manipuri Elders’ Consortium Shillong (MECS) commemorated the third anniversary of the start of the ongoing Manipur conflict with a discussion on “Manipur and Meitei: The Road Ahead” in Laitumkhrah here today.
Ethnic violence broke out on May 3, 2023 between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. MECS painted the violence as being an “onslaught on the Meitei community in our own land Manipur”.
Meitei community members shared their views on how to safeguard the Meitei community and bring peace back to Manipur. Attendees were drawn from different walks of life from in and around Shillong.
A minute’s silence was observed and candles were lit to “pay homage to those who lost their lives since May 3, 2023 in the ongoing conflict.”
