The Department of Khasi at Sankardev College, Shillong organised an inter-college quiz competition, ‘Tang Shikyntien’, in the Khasi language yesterday.
The objective was to enrich Khasi vocabulary and also to engage the interest of students in learning and broadening their knowledge of the Khasi language, thereby ensuring that it is preserved and its usage continued and encouraged.
There were eight colleges that participated in the competition.
The winners were Samborlang Pde and Bashembhalang Warbah of Shillong College, with St Mary’s College’s Ribakordor Syiem and Elbaris Kurbah coming second and St Anthony’s College’s Blibor Suting and Amtilang Iawphniaw third.
The quiz master was Sukjai Swer. The chief guest of the programme was Prof MS Warjri, the IQAC coordinator of the college.
