As part of the celebration of Meghalaya’s 50th year of statehood and 75 years of Indian independence, the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society, Umling, and the Umling C&RD block organised a Self-Help Group Mela and health camp at Pahamsyiem, Ri-Bhoi.
The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong as the chief guest, cabinet minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare, Sosthenes Sohtun MLA, Mayralborn Syiem MLA, Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah and others.
In the keynote address, Kurbah informed the gathering that, in Umling block, there are 228 villages divided into nine clusters, with a total of 1,450 SHGs.
Tynsong highlighted that his government has earmarked Rs 150 crore to finance SHGs in the state. He also said that the government aims to uplift farmers in the state by providing loans to the SHGs in which the interest will be borne by the state government.
