A self-help group mela cum health camp for SHGs of Amalarem C&RD Block was today held at Enowel Hall Playground in Amlarem and certificates were also awarded to best performing cadres, village with 100 per cent SHG saturation and to SHGs/VOs with 90-100 per cent vaccination.
The programme was organised by the District Mission Management Unit, West Jaintia hills in collaboration with the office of Block Development Officer, Amlarem C&RD Block to celebrate 50th years of Statehood.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui inaugurated the mela, who in his speech, spoke about development in Meghalaya in 50 years, particularly under the Amlarem Sub-Division. He stated that before Meghalaya attain its statehood there was only one dispensary at Nongtalang which is now upgraded to Community Health Centres (CHC) and how many health centres have been set up- three PHCs one at Dawki, Jarain, Pdengshakap, one dispensary at Padu and Sub-centres.
He also informed that almost all the villages under the Sub-Division are connected except for Kamsing and Kongwang villages.
Two government higher secondary schools and upper primary schools are being upgraded to RMSA at Trangblang and Skhenpyrsit, he informed, adding, that Nongtalang College is fully recognised by UGC and accredited with Grade B by NAAC which is one of the first in West Jaiñtia Hills District to be sanctioned fully by the Government from September 1,2021.
He also informed that the government through the FOCUS program is helping farmers to upscale their productivity.

West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Garod LSN Dykes, Sub Divisional Officer, Abhilash Baranwal, R.Kynta, COO- Programme MSRLS also spoke on the occasion .
