In a bid to uphold the rich heritage of Elaka Nongpoh Sirdarship in Ri-Bhoi, the revered traditional ritual known as ‘Shad Sajer’ is set to be held at Wortoh Peak next month.
Scheduled for March 23, this edition of Shad Sajer will witness the participation from six Raids falling under Elaka Nongpoh Sirdarship, namely Nongkharai, Nongpoh, Nonglyngdoh, Nongkhrah, Sohkhwai and Nongkyrla.
Addressing the press, the traditional chief of Elaka Nongpoh Sirdarship, Pillar Stone Syiem Nongshai, articulated that the primary objective behind organising Shad Sajer is to safeguard the identity and cultural heritage cherished by the people under the Elaka, as passed down by their forefathers.
He further elaborated on the diverse range of events encompassed within Shad Sajer, highlighting traditional practices that will engage and involve the local populace from the six Raids and emphasized the paramount significance of Shad Sajer in its role in offering gratitude to the divine for bountiful harvests and seeking blessings for prosperous sowing seasons ahead.
