A send-off was held today for the Meghalaya U-17 girls’ team that will represent the state at the 62nd Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2023 in New Delhi.
The tournament, the culmination of block, district and state level events, will run from September 19 to 26.
Saiden Secondary School from Ri-Bhoi were the winners of the girls’ state level tournament in July.
Today’s send-off saw Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Isawanda Laloo, encourage the 16-member squad to do their best at the national event. Although Meghalaya schools have won both the U-14 and U-17 boys’ tournaments before, the state has never won the girls’ event.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Assistant Directors of Sports and Youth Affairs Paia B War Nongbri and K Passah, Ri-Bhoi District Sports Officer Bobby Lyngdoh Nongbet, the Headmaster of Saiden Secondary School and teachers.
