The “see saw” game has again started with regards to the office of the Wapung Community and Rural Development Block.
For the fourth time, the block has again shifted to Khliehriat, much to the dismay of the dorbar shnongs in Wapungshnong and Wapungskur.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Wapung C & RD Block, comprising of the dorbar shongs of the two villages, informed that the shift was carried on September 8 with no reasons.
JAC secretary, Hercules Mutyen said since the dorbar shnongs had provided a space for the block office to function since March 2022 as the construction of the office of the block is not complete. However, the office shifted base to Khliehriat, even as the Block Development Officer never responded to them, he added.
The JAC said it is shocked by the move and has demanded for a clarification from the State government on the sudden shift of the block.
It may be recalled that on November 6, 2018, the Wapung C&RD Block was shifted to its original location at Khliehriat retaining the old name, Khliehriat C&RD Block.
The shifting was done after Khliehriat town became the district headquarters of East Jaiñtia Hills district.
After the creation of East Jaiñtia Hills district, the State government during the tenure of the then Community and Rural Development Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar had decided to shift the Khliehriat C&RD Block to Wapung, which was then inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on December 16, 2021.
