The total staff strength of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is around 800 and around Rs 50 crore was spent annually for payment of staff salaries.
Informing this today, newly elected KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that half of the council’s revenue is mostly derived from its own resources like professional tax, royalty, etc while the rest is from the State government in form of shares from the major minerals, motor vehicle tax, etc.
“The new EC will look into the well being of our staff as well and see that no situation arises that our staff face the same fate as the JHADC and the GHADC where staff don’t get their salary regularly,” he said.
On Central government funding to the council, Syiem said that to date the council is getting its funds from the 15th Finance Commission in the form of tied grants till 2022.
On the untied grants for the various developmental schemes, he said that this has been pending to the council for the past two years.
Syiem also informed that the officials from the concerned ministry will visit the council to impart training to the IT cell of the council on how to handle the various applications, scheme proposals, plan estimates, etc online which will also address the problem of delay in submission of the utilisation certificates.
