Mylliem MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh has expressed hope that the planned Western Bypass will ease the extreme traffic jams that plague the area from Upper Shillong down to the Umshyrpi River.
“Now that the construction of the Western Bypass has been allotted, which will go from Lad Mawreng to Lad Umsaw, it means vehicles coming from Ri-Bhoi, Nongstoin, Sohra, Assam, etc will take that route and this will ease traffic,” Lyngdoh told Highland Post recently. “We hope that there is no hindrance in the construction of the bypass that has been allotted at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore and we hope that all villages give their cooperation.”
He also said that he is hopeful that work on the Shillong-Tamabil road widening project gets going. It had been halted after the contractor ditched the project and has been retendered.
Stating that he is following up on the issue, Lyngdoh said that he has also been suggesting that the government come up with more link and interior roads across the state.
