Ten self-help groups (SHGs) in Ri-Bhoi received a grant of Rs 10 lakh today to support poultry farming operations focused on egg production.
The SHGs’ members had to successfully complete training under the central government’s ‘Aspirational District’ programme in order to qualify for the financial assistance.
The eggs that these farms will produce will then supply the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme with the aim of meeting the nutritional needs of children and pregnant women.
The poultry farm of one SHG member, Birit Nongrum, was today officially inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhaya at Umden Umsaitphrah.
