A new labour room and maternity ward at Umroi Health and Wellness Centre were officially inaugurated today by Damanbaitbha Lamare, the local MLA.
Also present on the occasion were Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhaya, Umroi MDC RR Kharbuki and other distinguished guests.
The added facilities came about through a collaborative effort between the SELCO Foundation and the district administration, which have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under the central government’s ‘Aspirational District’ programme. Ri-Bhoi is one of more than 100 so-called aspirational districts that are getting specialised attention to speed up their developmental progress.
The site for the labour room and maternity ward was provided free of cost by the Umroi Presbyterian Church.
Under the MoU, SELCO Foundation’s commitment includes ensuring a well-planned health sub-centre that remains resilient to power disruptions during emergencies. SELCO, the foundation’s parent company, is focused on solar energy.
