The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has praised the resolve of the citizenry of Garo Hills who kept up their massive public protests that forced Rakesh Sangma to resign as Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council after a few troubled weeks in charge.
Rakesh was opposed by various groups over allegations that his family did not follow Garo customs.
AHAM also thanked the government for not using force against the agitators, the GHADC executive committee for paying heed to the voice of the people and even Rakesh for finally resigning.
“The organisation has no personal issue or grudge against him [as] the issue was of standing for the rights of the A’chik nation,” AHAM said in a release today.
Earlier today, thousands of people participated in the procession around the town in Tura and gathered at Tura Government Field at Tetengkol after the official declaration of resignation by Rakesh.
