Wellness guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar addressed an IIM Shillong function today online on the topic of ‘Self-Management: The Key to Leadership Effectiveness.’
The session was presided over by IIM Shillong Director DP Goyal and was attended by the entire IIM Shillong fraternity, comprising students, faculty, staff and other corporate invitees as well.
Shankar began the session by emphasizing the uniqueness of the Indian style of management and stressed that the world was currently looking for a type of management, where the concept of unity in diversity would be upheld.
“To manage yourself, you need to know what the self is. What is the self?” he asked as he took the participants on a journey to deduce the meaning. An individual’s attitude, likes, dislikes, tendencies, and behaviour constitute the ‘self’, explained Shankar. He elucidated that the crux of self-management was all about staying in the present moment and he also shed light on the two most important facets for running a successful business: intelligence and intuition.
According to the spiritual guru, successful self-management encompasses three points – managing emotions and constantly making an effort to avoid preoccupation, always listening well and choosing words carefully and being sensitive and not imposing one’s own thoughts and feelings on others.
An interactive question and answer session followed the talk.
